About

Data & AI capabilities, and the teams that run them.

Biography

Rick Young, Data & AI executive, smiling in an orange shirt.

I build Data & AI capabilities that deliver measured business value: the strategy, the operating model, the governed data foundation, and the team that keeps it running.

I lead the Data & AI practice at Sikich, which I founded in September 2023 and built to a $3M practice in its second full year, on track for $5M+ in its third, while leading AI transformation programs for Fortune 1000 clients. Recent work includes the Data & AI strategy that secured a multimillion-dollar investment to modernize a large U.S. insurer's core applications through AI-driven code refactoring and agentic process redesign; a customer master data strategy unifying four legacy ERPs for a leading manufacturer and distributor; the first enterprise data platform, on Microsoft Fabric, and AI models for the lawyers of an Am Law 100 law firm; and an enterprise Data & AI strategy for a clinical-stage biotech that stood up an AI innovation operating model, a governance council, a single-source-of-truth platform, and a working authoring agent. The strategies come with the business case: I have presented to a mix of boards and executive steering committees for the investments that followed, from a Fortune 500 CDAO organization to a $5M first-year AI investment at an insurer.

Earlier, I led North Highland's global Data & Analytics practice, including enterprise Data & AI governance for the world's largest payments technology company, and ThreeBridge Solutions' Data & Analytics practice. I founded 3sage Consulting in 2009 and grew it until its acquisition by ThreeBridge.

I write about outcome-first AI, moving from pilot to production, and data monetization for Automation.com and Quality Digest, and have been quoted in CIO.com. I'm based in Atlanta.

The story in five beats

Founder. Partner. Practice leader. Founder again.

  1. Earlier career

I started in consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and spent the following years as a principal consultant and solutions architect, building the business intelligence and data practices that Atlanta clients relied on.

  2. Founder

In 2009 I founded 3sage Consulting to do enterprise data management the way I thought it should be done: strategy first, governance built in, platforms business leaders could actually use. We designed the Chief Data & Analytics Officer organization for a Fortune 500 company, governed a Fortune 100 health payer's first data lake, and built master data solutions for a Fortune 15 healthcare IT provider. By the time ThreeBridge Solutions acquired the firm, to enter Atlanta and to add data, analytics, and AI consulting to its portfolio, it had grown to 24 consultants and $8–10M in revenue.

  3. Partner at the acquirer

As Partner for Data & Analytics at ThreeBridge, I sold and delivered the practice's work, including the enterprise data transformation and Snowflake platform for the nation's largest home title insurer and a "future leader" AI talent program for a large credit bureau.

  4. Global practice leader

At North Highland I led the global Data & Analytics practice, more than 70 consultants across the US and UK, as generative AI arrived: data strategy, master data management, governance, analytics, and the first generative AI capabilities. The work that followed is the foundation for everything I do in AI now. Then Sikich recruited me to found a practice from a standing start, and as an entrepreneur at heart I could not pass that up.

  5. Founder again, inside a national firm

Since September 2023 I have built and led Sikich's Data & AI practice: a team hired from two consultants to nearly twenty, eight named offerings, the AI Solutions Studio, and $3M in revenue in the second full year, on track for $5M+, while leading AI strategy, agentic process redesign, and master data programs for Fortune 1000 clients.
